Day 2 of 30 days, 30 illustrations

Day 2: My new dress.

I have been on the hunt for a dungaree denim dress for a while now. On that note, I have also been on the look out for a denim shirt dress for YEARS, but still haven't found one that I think doesn't look stupid on me! And I had the same problem with the pinafore/ dungaree dress, until I came across this one in TOPSHOP recently. It has a zip all down the front and is black denim, and it is super comfortable.  You can see the real dress here. There is also a very cute pink cord version which I am thinking about...

TOPSHOP Fashion illustration by Holly Sharpe

Anyway, given that a lot of my work is fashion illustration I decided that one of my illustrations (and perhaps more in the days to come!) should be based on what I wear, and especially newly purchased items. I suppose the reason I haven't done so before is partly because I sometimes feel that I have a strange relationship to clothes. I love fashion and love drawing it and even designing it, but sometimes I find choosing what to wear really hard and a lot of the time I then go for the same stuff - jeans and a t shirt mainly! I love dressing up and mixing things up, but often I find it easier to convert to my 'usual' clothes that require zero thought. And you do hear of people, pretty sure Steve Jobs was one, and my tutor at art school another, who wear the same outfit every day and just buy copies of the same thing. Which I sometimes consider adopting so as not to take up any thought or head space when our lives already feel filled up with decisions and tasks. BUT, I don't think I ever could because fashion is a way to express ourselves, our individuality and can often be an accessible luxury when other things are out of our reach.

MAC - live illustrating

Last weekend, Friday 23rd Sept and Saturday 24th, I had the privilege of working at the official launch of the new store opening for MAC Cosmetics here in Glasgow. The event was celebrating the 'Art of the Lip' and along with myself there was also a DJ, a model and a drag queen to make it an exciting couple of days! I was busy illustrating lots of lovely customers which was an absolute delight. You can see some examples and photos from the event below.
